Crafty Summer Playdate Pizza making

Ahhh... thank goodness for community.  Another mom hosted this and I can feel her stress! Hahaha!  I enjoyed playing with my kid and not playing teacher.

Fellow supermom showed us how she prepared the pizza dough.  Tots helped by taking turns pouring in the pre-measured ingredients in her awesome heavy duty blender.  It's really meant for pizza dough.
Then kids used cookie cutters to shape their pizzas.  And had the sauce to spread and cheese to sprinkle and mushrooms to decorate.
We also made dessert pizza.  Oh it was fun!  I hope she hosts another playdate soon!
Ant ate her pizzas and loved her dessert pizza the most.  Sugar overload!!!

Crafty Summer Playdate Cupcake Decorating

This is our 6th playdate and this time it was hosted by a professional baker.  Yipee!  Kids got to play with fondant icing and it felt like play dough.  It was also my first time to play with fondant.

We played with food coloring and had molds.  Ant wanted her cupcake plain though.  She decorated one and then insisted on keeping one pure chocolate only.  Thank goodness for that.  No sugar rush for her!
It was a messy kind of fun.  Thanks to the other moms for these photos.  Couldn't take my own shots.

Crafty Summer Playdate Ceramic Fish Plates

The task of homeplay is a challenge now that I have more working hours away from home.  Papa is willing to homeplay of course, but he isn’t as confident when it comes to being spontaneous and creative.  He does know how to follow Ant’s “lead” but I still have to prepare a list of to-dos for the week.

Lately, I haven’t been able to prepare materials and Papa has resorted to a lot of videos. Waaah!  Fortunately, my childhood friend and I organized a series of 12 summer playdates with other mommy friends with toddlers.  We took turns hosting it (although I hosted 5 playdates) weekly.  We had it in different venues and we also took turns bringing merienda for everyone.  I did arts & crafts, while other moms did baking, music, sports and science.  It was actually a lot of fun for the kids.  It was quite stressful for me on my assigned days, but fulfilling nevertheless.

My acrylic paint is water based and I store them in shampoo bottles or any bottle I see.  Bottles make it easier to pour out.  I bought the paint in tin cans to maximize on cost.

Luckily I had a lot of left over ceramic fish plates.  Kids painted with acrylic.  Ant did the orange and yellow plate.  The moms helped the kids put glitter fish scales.

Weekly was a lot of fun for the kids, but too often for the moms who were preparing for it.  One mom and I want to do it regularly, twice a month, since we want to homeschool our toddlers.  We’re teaming up with an experienced homeschooler who is my friend in another mommy group.  Hopefully this follows through.

Crafty Summer Playdate Jackson Pollock

I told my friends about Jackson Pollock when I showed them artworks of the kids.  They couldn't quite appreciate the kids doing Pollock inspired art until they learned about how his paintings look like.  These days, anyone can do a Pollock painting.  During his time, however, he was the first.  That's why his paintings are worth millions.
I froze acrylic paint.  On this really hot day, it was a fun thing to do.

Then we had the kids squeeze tubes of glue and acrylic on their artworks.
 Pretty cool huh?
We also painted plaster of paris molds.  I used out beach set to make the molds.  Ant did the blue duck with pink.
These works of art will soon be made into bags.
And the moms will be proud to show them off to friends :)

See my previous posts on other crafty summer playdates too.
